Memory Haven Sumner was created from the heart. One of our very first residents was Marcia,the wife of Memory Haven founder and administrator John B. Merz.Marcia was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease at the very young age of 55. He was her personalcaregiver for seven years in their family home. Marcia’s eventual need for dementia care outsideof the home motivated John to create Memory Haven’s unique cottages.Marcia had the opportunity to live at Memory Haven for a year until God called her home. Johnknows she was both cared for and cared about at Memory Haven. While she is no longer alive,these two outcomes remain top priorities for John and his team as they care for family membersof other community residents.
